For Oreo
It’s been three months now
Since the heartbreaking decision
To bid you farewell
Yet not a day goes by
Where we don’t think of you
The cool tuxedo dude
We affectionately called you
Echoes of your distinctive meow
Linger here in our house
We still smile at the memory
Of your lopsided Groucho Marx moustache

We were so abundantly blessed
With your presence and your love
Our lives enriched
By your playful and mischievous nature
During the time we fostered you
How could anyone not want the same?
Our anger still lingers
That you were ultimately deemed disposable
By those who renegaded on the adoption contract
All too easily abdicating their responsibility
All they had to do was make one phone call
One simple phone call
And we would have gladly welcomed you back
With no question or reservation
You and all those we foster
Deserve to live for many years
In comfort and happiness
Loved as a member of the household
We will forever live with the regret
For our error in judgement
That made your furever home false
You should not have had to travel
Over the Rainbow Bridge so soon
Precious Oreo
Cool tuxedo dude
We miss you

One tiny life
Born only four weeks ago
Solid black with tiny paws
Orphaned by misfortune
Found and rescued
Valiantly he tried
Clinging to this second chance
Valiantly we tried
Nursing and encouraging
This one tiny life
But the separation
From mother and littermates
Left him too vulnerable
Alone just a little too long
But long enough to get sick
Far too young and defenseless
Without his mother’s milk
To sustain and protect him
His littermates’ warmth
To sustain and comfort him
One tiny life
Born only four weeks ago
Breathed his last
Cradled in my gentle embrace
Gone to the Rainbow Bridge
Taking with him
Our tears
Knowing
Our unconditional love
One tiny life
He knew he was not alone
He left his tiny paws
Forever imprinted
In our hearts

“To some blind souls all cats are much alike. To a cat lover every cat from the beginning of time has been utterly and amazingly unique.”
- Jenny de Vries -

Was it really only a couple months ago
That this homeless black and calico cat
Meandered into our lives?
We never knew from hence she came
Wary at first, yet her sweet temperment
Reached and touched both our hearts
Even though we both realized
We couldn’t really claim her
We left food and water outside for her
Allowing her to come and go as she wished
Our kindness bolstered her trust in us
To where she decided to further
Entwine her fortunes with ours
By giving birth to seven kittens on our porch
Under the chilly night clouds of December 4th
Five orange striped, one black, one calico- shaded

Quite the feat for momma cat, small as she was
We protectively watched over them all
And soon it became such a joy to come home
And find seven pairs of eyes gazing up at us
From the depths of their cardboardbox home
And momma cat waiting patiently nearby
We delighted in their antics and playfulness
As they explored the limits of the porch
All too soon came the day that was foretold to happen
Our time of fostering this little family was done
Holding back tears we said goodbye yesterday
To five orange striped, one black, one calico-shaded
And their sweet tempered little mother
Secure that they will all be adopted
The silence of this cold January Sunday is strange
Yet we are kept warm by the photos and our memories
And the thirty two footprints in our hearts

“Cats are glorious creatures ~ who must on no accounts be underestimated…
Their eyes are fathomless depths of cat-world mysteries. ”
Lesley Anne Ivory (from Glorious Cats, The Paintings of Lesley Anne Ivory)

quote from: www.catquotes.com

Like the whisper of a lover’s breath on bare skin, the wind caressed its way across the golden fields of wheat and barley covering a good part of the land that was Tabula Rasa. It swirled and flowed around the empty house, sweeping up stray leaves at random and twirling them around madly in waltzing eddies.
Invisible tendrils of the wind playfully teased the coat of the gray cat slowly padding her way back to the house from the abandoned garden. It had been a day for pure amusement, finding an assortment of creepy crawly things in the garden to examine.
Beetles! Caterpillar! Even a lizard! They tasted horrible to delicate feline taste buds, but were fun to play with! As least, until they tried one too many times to crawl away, then the lazy swipe of unsheathed claws ended the game.
